Falcons host Seahawks, Colts in NFC South title game
Atlanta (AP) The Atlanta Falcons host the Seattle Seahawks, who have won five of their past six games.
The game is scheduled for Sunday night.
The Falcons (5-4) won last year’s NFC South championship game against the Carolina Panthers and are on the brink of their first NFC Championship Game since 2006, when the San Francisco 49ers beat the Atlanta Falcons.
The teams have met in the playoffs only once since the 2006 season.
The Seahawks have won four of their last five games.
“I’ve always thought the Falcons are going to come out strong,” Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan said.
“They’ve got a great defensive front and great receivers.
And they have a great running game and an offense that can really run the ball.”
The Seahawks (4-5) were beaten by the New Orleans Saints on Saturday.
Seattle has won five straight and six of seven.
The win would tie the franchise record for consecutive victories for a franchise.
The 49ers lost to Atlanta in Super Bowl LI in 2013.
“It’s great to get our season back on track,” 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis said.
The Atlanta-Seattle game is the fourth matchup of the season between the teams.
The winner advances to the divisional round against the Washington Redskins in Minneapolis on Feb. 6.
The NFC South champion Atlanta Falcons beat the New England Patriots 41-24 in overtime in Super League action at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Feb 1, 2018.
The Patriots won in overtime.
Atlanta is 4-2 against the Patriots and 3-1 against New England in the regular season.
